What started as a general feeling of “eh” whenever I crossed his face on television has evolved into a full-blown hatred. I used to watch occasionally, until I realized he just isn’t funny. Now I only watch The Tonight Show with Jay Leno when there is a guest I have some interest in.
I watched him interview James Van Der Beek — generally a source of ire all on his own — and found myself so enraged by Leno’s weird gay jokes and lame questions that I was actually rooting for Beeky!
Last night TiVo scored Leno interviewing Robert Downey, Jr. (insert drug addict reference here). Sure, he acted like he might be on speed, but I took that as a cue that he was simply trying to restrain himself from punching Jay.
Jay asked him about his drug problems. And. Nothing. Else. It was the most annoying interview evah (even worse than Joshua Jackson’s appearance on Letterman). It got to the point that RDJ actually said, “You know it’s not like I’ve spent the last 15 years in Betty Ford.” Leno gave no set up for the clip for RDJ’s latest movie, The Singing Detective, and it came off as totally random and bizarre! RDJ tried to talk about his friendship with Mel Gibson, and Jay made it seem that Mel was a nice guy who helped Downey change his bedpans in the joint! Jebus!
Note to Leno: Did Johnny Carson spend 15 minutes trying to talk to guests about how they keep their kids off drugs? It’s a talk show! It’s for PR and entertainment purposes, you toolio! SHUT UP, JAY! He’s just so unfunny and obvious and boring that it makes me insane.

Gah, I just hate him.
