The fact that every cable news channel is interviewing and talking with Randall Terry as if he is a rational human being, as if he is not a hypocrite or an asshole, is beyond words to me. Is their memory so fuzzy, so dullened by months upon months of stories of Paris Hilton’s vag that they don’t remember who this nutbag is or what he stands for?
The fact that the Schindler family -who once issued a press release in 2003 to disavow any relationship with him because he’s CRAZY- has called him and his troops into action just makes me really, really dislike them.
“Our family asked Randall Terry to come, and we gave him carte blanche to put Terri’s fight in front of the American people. He did exactly what we asked, and more. Randall organized vigils and protests, he coordinated the media, he helped us meet with Governor Bush.” That quote was from Robert Schindler, Terri’s father, in 2003. Mmmkay then.
I don’t think either side of the family in this case is right or wrong, but inviting that bastard into the equation because they knew he’d get them international media exposure? GAH. And now Terri’s a sideshow because of it. But hey, at least they’re selling the donor list for profit. But back to Crazy Randy.
Calling him a Christian Activist does a disservice to the many decent, non-crazy Christians out there that hide their faces in shame to have to share a god with this man. This is the man that mailed President Clinton a mangled fetus. This is the man that screams and blocks access to reproductive health care for all women who use clinics because they happen to perform abortions there. You know, some people go there because they have no money or no real health insurance and would never think of having an abortion. And others would have abortions there and it’s none of our damn business.
Do the protesters differentiate between who they throw red paint on? No. Do the ones with the guns and the bombs get to pick and choose who they hurt at the clinics based on what services they’re there for? Hell no. I still remember sitting in a clinic waiting room on Sept. 11, 2001 (incidentally just down the street from where Schiavo is dying and where Randykins has currently set up shop in front of twenty TV cameras) and the receptionist and me were both totally freaked that someone would try something crazy just because the police were all too busy elsewhere. I have to be scared for my life in order to make sure my downtown region is working properly because this LOON loves all god’s little babies?
[And just a small FYI aside: There are no abortion providers that are clean and legal in 85 percent of counties in the US. Eighty-five percent. Chew on that a moment. Now tell me what this guy is so angry about? He has to drive nearly an hour from his headquarters to even find a clinic to picket. Seriously. Not even in the same city.]
CNN did a piece on him the other night. The self-proclaimed mouthpiece of the farthest extreme of the religious right has a gay son, a daughter who became a Muslim and had two children out of wedlock, and another daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock. They were, of course, his non-white, adopted children. You can’t blame their perversions on his faithful Christian sperm! But oh yeah, apparently his wife divorced him because he cheated on her. Not so faithful after all, those sperm.
Sinner, heal thyself. And stay the *%^!^$ off my TV. And if you could move out of my state, I’d really appreciate that too. But I don’t expect miracles. That’s your job.
